NWAIS believes that schools at all stages of development benefit from an intentional and directed reflective process. Our Standards and Demonstrations of Success represent the qualities we see as vital for outstanding schools to survive and thrive, today and into the future. Through the NWAIS accreditation process a school utilizes the Standards to look at itself through the lens of its own unique mission and philosophy.

The French Ministry of Education (Ministère de l’Éducation nationale) is the government department responsible for shaping and implementing France’s national education policy. It oversees preschool, primary, and secondary education, ensuring that all students have access to high-quality learning opportunities across the country. The ministry develops national curricula, sets educational standards, awards national diplomas, recruits and manages teaching staff, and allocates resources to promote equal access to education. It also evaluates the performance of the education system, conducts research and statistical analysis, and works with national and international organizations to improve educational outcomes. Through its centralized role, the ministry helps maintain consistency, quality, and equity throughout the French public education system.

The Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE – Agence pour l’enseignement français à l’étranger) is a public institution under the supervision of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs that coordinates and supports the global network of French schools abroad. Its mission is to provide high-quality French education to French citizens living overseas while also welcoming students of other nationalities, promoting the French language, culture, and educational values around the world. The AEFE oversees a network of more than 600 accredited schools in over 130 countries, serving more than 400,000 students. In addition to ensuring educational quality and consistency with the French national curriculum, the agency supports teacher training, educational innovation, international cooperation, and financial assistance programs for eligible families. Through its worldwide network, the AEFE plays a key role in strengthening France’s cultural influence and fostering international understanding.

MLF America is the North American branch of the Mission laïque française (MLF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting French international education around the world. Operating across the United States, Canada, and Haiti, MLF America supports a network of French and bilingual schools by strengthening educational quality, fostering collaboration among member institutions, and providing professional development opportunities for educators. Working closely with the French Ministry of Education and the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE), the organization helps schools implement the French curriculum while encouraging innovation, multilingualism, and intercultural learning. MLF America also serves as a link between North American schools and the global MLF network, helping students and educators benefit from shared resources, training, and international partnerships. FASPS is the North American headquarters for MLF America.

The Association of French Schools in North America (AEFA–AFSA) is a nonprofit organization that brings together French-accredited schools across the United States and Canada. Its membership consists of school leaders from institutions recognized by the French Ministry of National Education, all of which deliver the French curriculum while integrating North American educational and cultural perspectives. The association promotes collaboration among member schools through professional support, leadership development, the exchange of best practices, and the dissemination of educational, administrative, and legal information. Founded in 1985, AEFA–AFSA also advocates for bilingual and bicultural education, helping schools prepare students for success in leading universities throughout North America, France, and beyond. Through its network of more than 50 member schools, the association plays a key role in strengthening French-language education and fostering international educational cooperation across North America.

The Washington Federation of Independent Schools (WFIS) is a statewide membership organization that represents and supports private and independent schools throughout Washington State. Founded in 1970, WFIS serves as the primary advocate for independent education by working with legislators, state agencies, accrediting organizations, and school leaders to ensure that the interests of private schools are represented in educational policy and decision-making. The organization provides guidance on regulatory compliance, accreditation, governance, and legislative issues while fostering collaboration and professional development among its member schools. Through its advocacy, networking opportunities, and educational resources, WFIS helps strengthen the quality, independence, and sustainability of private education across Washington State.

POCIS Northwest (People of Color in Independent Schools Northwest) is a consortium of independent schools in the Pacific Northwest dedicated to supporting and strengthening Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) students, families, educators, and staff within independent school communities. The organization works to foster connection, belonging, and educational equity by providing professional development, networking opportunities, leadership programs, community events, admissions initiatives, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) resources for its member schools. Through regional partnerships and collaborative programming, POCIS Northwest helps schools advance their DEI goals while promoting dialogue, learning, and engagement among diverse school communities. Its mission is to connect, empower, and strengthen members of color across the region’s independent schools, creating environments where all students and educators can thrive.

Puget Sound Independent Schools (PSIS) is a collaborative network of more than 40 independent schools in the greater Seattle area that works to promote independent school education and support families throughout the school search and admissions process. Affiliated with the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS), PSIS helps prospective families learn about educational options from preschool through high school by providing school fairs, informational events, admissions resources, and guidance on topics such as financial aid and school selection. The organization also coordinates common admissions timelines among participating schools and fosters collaboration among member institutions. Through its outreach and educational resources, PSIS seeks to make the independent school admissions process more accessible, transparent, and manageable for families while highlighting the diverse learning environments available across the Puget Sound region.

The French-American Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest (FACC-PNW) is a binational nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening economic, commercial, and cultural relationships between France and the United States across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. As part of the broader French-American Chamber of Commerce network, the organization supports French and American businesses through networking opportunities, trade services, business development programs, industry events, and professional exchanges. FACC-PNW assists companies seeking to expand across the Atlantic by facilitating market connections, trade missions, and investment opportunities while fostering collaboration among entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, and public-sector partners. In addition to its business-focused initiatives, the chamber promotes French culture and education through programs such as France Education Northwest, helping to build lasting ties between the French and Pacific Northwest communities.
