ELEMENTARY school

Grades 1 to 5

Our program develops fully bilingual students who integrate knowledge across disciplines while mastering French and English literacy.

A young girl with brown hair in a braid, wearing a pink long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans, smiling and sitting on the ground next to a colorful chalk rainbow on asphalt.
Two young girls sitting on the floor in a classroom, reading a comic book together. One girl has glasses and a beaded bracelet, the other girl has a ponytail. They are near a window with colorful storage bins and books.

The harmonized bilingual program helps students adopt a global perspective and gain knowledge of different cultures

Following the French Ministry of Education curriculum supplemented with U.S. standards, we deliver rigorous instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music, and P.E. (including swimming).

Students learn French cursive penmanship alongside English script, building the foundation for academic success—by Grade 2, they read fluently and compose short paragraphs in both English and French.

By Grade 3, students begin their journey into a third language—Spanish or Mandarin—deepening their linguistic skills alongside their bilingual foundation. This study continues through Middle School, ensuring that by the end of their time at FASPS, students emerge as confident, well-rounded trilingual—prepared to communicate, connect, and thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Students strengthen their communication and interpersonal skills as they learn to collaborate effectively with others.

Program Highlights

  • A young boy sitting at a school desk writing in a notebook with a yellow pencil, with a girl in a red sweater sitting behind him in a classroom.

    LANGUAGE ARTS

Students are immersed in the French language, learning basic interpersonal communication skills with the goal of attaining cognitive academic language proficiency. Their acquired language skills in a bilingual environment help them find their place in the world, connect socially, and thrive academically.

  • A young girl wearing glasses and a purple shirt cutting a piece of paper with yellow scissors in a classroom. There are printed worksheets and classroom supplies on the desk, with more students working in the background.

    MATHEMATICS

In our math programs, students develop foundational problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and numerical fluency that they can then apply to real-world situations and future learning. An early focus on geometry develops spatial perception and enhances abstract reasoning skills.

  • Three boys are gathered around a small tablet or device on a table, smiling and looking at the screen. One boy with brown hair is on the left, another boy with red hair is in the middle, and a third boy with curly brown hair is on the right. The device has a label that reads 'Ecole Franco Americain' and 'French American School.' The background shows some shelves, papers, and a window with natural light.

    SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Science, engineering, and coding are centered around the inquiry method and facilitate the understanding of concepts such as matter, the living world, earth and its ecosystems, as well as sustainability and technology. This fosters critical thinking and creativity in every student.

  • People wearing bunny masks, blue costumes, and bunny feet on stage with a painted backdrop and flowers on the floor, performing in a play or show.

    VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS

Visual arts, music, and drama allow self-expression, the learning of theater and acting techniques, and the cultivation of cultural appreciation, ultimately enabling students to understand and connect with the world around them.

  • Two children smiling and playing in a swimming pool, wearing colorful swimwear and goggles.

    PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical education and fitness helps students develop gross motor skills and teaches them to express themselves using their bodies. They learn to take on responsibilities, cooperate with their peers, and maintain their health, agility, and flexibility.

  • Group of children exploring rocks and pebbles on a sandy beach outdoors on a sunny day.

    BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Students take their first overnight trip in 4th grade to lslandWood on Bainbridge Island to teach them about environmental sustainability. In 5th grade, they travel to Washington, DC, to experience firsthand the historical and cultural landmarks that bring their classroom lessons to life.

  • Children seated on the floor attending a presentation about a large dinosaur skeleton displayed behind them at a museum.

    HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY

Students are introduced to the rich tapestry of the world around them through lessons in history, geography, and social studies. These subjects form the foundation of cultural, civic, and global awareness.

  • A girl is using a cotton candy machine to make cotton candy, wearing a white T-shirt with a logo, while another girl stands nearby. Behind them is a poster on the white wall with French text.

    ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES

The optional after-school program includes homework help, classes (such as arts and crafts, sciences, cooking), and athletics (track & field, cross country, soccer, basketball, and volleyball), providing opportunities for creative exploration, skill building, and social interactions.

  • Three children smiling and posing together on a playground structure, outdoors in a park with trees and a building in the background.

    CULTURAL RESPONSIVENESS

Through carefully crafted lessons, they develop the ability to recognize unfairness and injustice in both historical and contemporary contexts. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and empathy are key tools as students learn to navigate interpersonal and local issues and work toward resolutions that reflect compassion and fairness.
