FASPS Parent Committee (FPC)

All parents and guardians are members of the FASPS Parent Committee (FPC). This group of dedicated and internationally-minded families nurtures the school's strong sense of community through a variety of social events and volunteer opportunities.

The FPC is also a great way for families to connect with other community members. There are many opportunities throughout the year to interact with the school's staff, get to know the faculty, and to form important friendships with other parents.

When your child enrolls at FASPS, the entire family becomes part of a wonderfully diverse and vibrant community where all are valued and welcomed.

Join us and get involved.
Building Community

Discover our unique community, connect with families from all over the world, and socialize with friends by participating in different events organized by the FPC.

  • Monthly FPC Coffee: Visit with fellow parents, enjoy a coffee and a pastry at our Monthly FPC Coffees. The Coffees may also feature FPC updates on upcoming events, as well as presentations like the State of the School in the winter.
  • Kermesse: Our Annual Fall Kermesse Carnival is a fun-filled event for FASPS families, alumni, and staff to participate in a festive afternoon of games, prizes, and fun! Rumour has it that the dunk tank will be a recurring highlight!
  • Faculty and Staff Appreciation (FSA): It’s no secret that the faculty and staff at FASPS are pretty special! The FSA Committee organizes gestures and activities that convey the community’s appreciation for the extraordinary care taken in educating and nurturing our children. Everyone from grandparents to students are encouraged to get involved in several events that take place throughout the school year.
  • Community Service: Community Service connects FASPS with its community by providing volunteer opportunities to students, their families, and FASPS faculty and staff on Mercer Island, Seattle, Bellevue, and surrounding communities. Opportunities include monthly food donations to Thurgood Marshall’s pantry program, in-service days at Treehouse Wearhouse, Food Lifeline food bank and with Mercer Island parks, clothing drives for Treehouse, and a cereal drive for Hopelink.
Fundraising

One of the ways the FPC supports FASPS is by helping to raise money for the Cultural Agility Fund, which supports all FASPS students by enhancing and expanding beyond-the-classroom experiences, such as special guest visits, performances, exhibits, field trips, and national and international trips. Oftentimes these experiences and trips are at no additional cost or are heavily subsidized.

  • Monthly Pâtisserie Sales: Pains au chocolat, croissants, oh my! The FPC Pâtisserie Committee coordinates sales of assorted baked goods to help support the Cultural Agility Fund, which enhances and expands beyond-the-classroom experiences, creating an education that is unique to FASPS.
  • Merchandise: Show your school spirit with FASPS gear! Our traditional torchon (tea towel) sale with designs by the children is available for preorder in the fall.
  • Gala & Auction: The Gala & Auction is a collaboration between the school and the FPC to create a special and wonderful evening and fundraising opportunity.

Volunteer Coordination

Coordinating volunteers is one of the key ways in which the FPC supports school events. From creating sign-ups to assisting with the all-important tracking of valuable volunteer hours, the FPC is available to help.

Facilitating Communication

Grade Parents are a vital link between parents and the community. They facilitate communication between the teachers and families of their grade and help the FPC and the school administration in communicating important information to the parents. Grade Parent commitments run the duration of the school year and play a vital role in bridging between families, teachers and the FPC.
