The FASPS International Middle School/Collège International is patterned after the Middle Years Program (MYP) of International Schools.
The program opened its doors in a new state-of-the art facility in September 2008. We currently enroll students in Grade 6 and 7, and will open Grade 8 in September 2010. The Middle School offers students two options: the English section and the French-English section.
Middle school students engage in a core curriculum that provides the academic and critical thinking skills necessary for success in high school and beyond. Emphasis is also placed on fostering students' sense of personal responsibility and independence, as well as cultivating forward thinking and a global philosophy geared toward living in a complex and interconnected world.
English Section
In the monolingual section, English is the language of instruction. This section is open to students who have not previously been enrolled in a dual-language school in French and English. An intensive program of modern languages supports the strong academic curriculum; students study French, Spanish, or Mandarin during their three years of middle school. Latin is also offered as an elective in Grade 7.
French-English Section
This bilingual section in French and English is an extension of our current elementary bilingual program. Modeled after other successful French American middle schools, this program is fully open to current FASPS students as well as to students enrolled in French American schools locally and throughout North America. It is also open to students in French schools in France and worldwide.
Students in both sections learn together in combined classes such as English, modern languages, physical education, and the arts. Sports and physical education take place at the adjacent Stroum Jewish Community Center (SJCC) facilities, which include a gymnasium and a swimming pool.
Upon completion of middle school, students are well-prepared to attend a wide range of high schools both public and private, locally, nationally, and internationally.
