How old must a child be to be considered for admission?
Children entering YPK need to be 3 by December 31. For PreK they should be 4 by December 31 and for Kindergarten 5 by December 31. All students must be fully toilet-trained by the first day of school.
Do children need to speak French before entering school?
Children entering the pre-elementary grades (YPK, PK and K) do not need prior French language experience. In fact, nearly half of our students come from non-French speaking families and go on to excel in both languages. Students entering the elementary program(grades 1-5) need to speak French.
What if we do not speak French?
The children are immersed in the French language and they are gently and expertly guided by professional teachers who help them feel comfortable with their “other” language. Parents can support their children's learning by providing opportunities for them to use the language outside of the school environment.
What if we speak a third language at home?
Over 10% of our families speak a third language at home. Children from these families tend to thrive at FASPS.
What is the background of your teachers?
FASPS teachers in the French program are native speakers who were trained in France and hold credentials from the French Ministry of Education. All of our English program teachers are credentialed by the State of Washington.
What is the class size at FASPS?
In pre-elementary grades, we have a maximum of 20 students per class with two teachers per class. Classes in grades 1-8 have an average of 16 to 18 students.
What are the hours of the school day?
The YPK and PK programs begin at 8:45am and end at 3:00pm. K - grade 5 classes run from 8:30am until 3:15pm. Middle School students attend school from 8:30am - 3:30pm.
